Second-degree burns are more severe than first degree burns and involve multiple layers of skin. Second degree burns blister and requires more time to heal than first degree burns. These burns are usually accompanied by scarring which can be disfiguring throughout the victim’s life.
Unlike first degree burns, second-degree burns may require surgery in order to correct scars and other damage. Second-degree burns are also accompanied by an increased risk for infection and other complications due to the severity of the burn.
